Firm Overview

New Jersey Business Lawyer

I am a solo practitioner offering legal counsel and representation to new and established businesses and their owners, executives, and managers. Since its establishment in 2000, my firm, Barry F. Gartenberg, L.L.C., has been committed to:

  • Serving the needs of clients in a professional manner without sacrificing personal attention, and
  • Embracing technology as a tool to enhance rather than replace personal communication.

A business lawyer with significant business experience

My ability to serve business clients is complemented by a high degree of firsthand business management knowledge and insight. For 18 years prior to practicing law, I owned and managed a major metals trading company and other ventures. The knowledge I gained during those years benefits clients who are starting, operating, expanding, selling, or purchasing a business. I use my unique background when working with clients to find practical, effective, and thoughtful solutions to legal issues and problems. Such solutions can avoid the expense and distraction of disputes and lawsuits that create a financial burden and prevent clients from giving their full attention to running their companies.

Academic credentials

I possess academic credentials in business, finance, and law. I earned my Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Business Management in 1978 from Fairleigh Dickinson University where I graduated with University Honors and was named Mennen Scholar of the Year. I earned my Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree in Finance in 1979 from Fordham University. I earned my Juris Doctor (JD) degree, cum laude, in 1997 from Seton Hall School of Law.

Bar Admission

I was admitted to the practice of law in the State of New Jersey and United States District Court for the District of New Jersey in 1997.

Sharing knowledge

I share my knowledge through my service as an adjunct professor. At Fairleigh Dickinson University, I teach Advanced Employment Law in the University’s Master of Administrative Science Program as well as Corporate Law, Advanced Contract Law, Employment Law, and Legal Research & Writing in the University’s Paralegal Studies Program. I collaborated with the Paralegal Studies Program Director to design the advanced contract law class that focuses on both substantive law and drafting. In addition, I serve on the Program’s Board of Advisors. I also teach graduate and undergraduate courses in Business Law in the University’s College of Business. I have also taught a variety of Business Law and Employment Law courses in paralegal studies programs and in undergraduate programs at Georgian Court University, Union County College, and Morris County College.

I share my knowledge through continuing education by presenting at for-credit programs at the New Jersey Institute for Continuing Legal Education (NJICLE), presenting programs at business chambers, trade associations and adult schools, and by authoring numerous articles and newsletters on business law.
